Josh Lyons grew up learning from “America’s Most Trusted Horseman”, his father, John Lyons.
With this strong foundation, Josh continues to learn and grow. He has now developed effective, easy-to-understand horse training methods used by riders and trainers around the world. And now Lyons Legacy has gone that step further to bring the training right into your home - the Lyons Legacy Online Training Program.
Josh’s methods really work, for all the right reasons! The education of horses, riders, and trainers is ever-evolving. Josh constantly improves his techniques, making it easier for both horse and rider. He spends his days at horse training clinics, giving private instruction, and teaching at equine events. "I believe in chasing your dreams. You don’t have to follow what everyone else does, get out of your comfort zone and go for it. I knew I wanted to pursue my passion with horses. The Lord made that clear and led me all the way here and will still lead me to my next adventure. I’ve been at Lyons Legacy for a little over a week now and have learned so much! Josh has taught me a lot about life, horse training and myself. My first couple days I was so nervous. I looked around and thought to myself why am I here? I saw Josh look right at me and I thought he was going to yell at me and tell me all I’m doing wrong but all he did was walk to me and said “just relax. this takes time. just go have fun!” Josh is one of the best teachers I’ve had. As well known as he is he’s very humble in his work and wants to help you succeed. I was feeling discouraged one morning and he looked me straight in the eye and said “horse training takes time...you can do it faster and better but you can’t do it wrong. "John created the Legacy and one of the best training programs in the world back in the early 90's. For those who have never worked with a horse beyond going on a pack trail ride you might not understand much about all the long hard hours these folks spent to become one of the Certified Trainers at the different levels offered now through Josh Lyons. Josh was playful but a little shy in 1989 when I first saw him there at the Symposium. I think he was around 12 at the time, in this photo he still has that excitement in his eyes that I saw way back then. One of the marks of a good teacher is to always know when the students need to be pushed on or given time to unwind after many long and hard hours. I think Josh has just about mastered that idea. On the day this was taken, the trainers were in their last week but were tired and getting brain fog. Josh called them together for a game that still amazes me today thinking about it. After lunch, he brought out several dozen eggs, not cooked to have an egg tossing contest to see who could move out the farthest and catch an egg without it breaking. I think the little contest showed who had good soft hands and who needed to work on it a little more. This shows that even in playing, we can observe and learn things that can be important. I will share the winner who won on the ground exercise and then how much harder it was while riding a horse. Over the years, it has been an honor to meet so many wonderful people and be associated with them, many I still call friends. A few might shoot me for sharing but then again, they all are special people and this is just my own observations while photographing them for their start in the Training business. I love all you guys including those I have never met and have the greatest respect for you having reached for your dream, keep on Dreaming Big!"

"In 1998, I met several John Lyons Certified Trainers at an event in Missouri called Ride with the Stars. These trainers were extremely eager to help me with my horse and the capability they demonstrated inspired and encouraged me to reach for my dreams! The John & Josh Lyons Certification Program gave me the tools and knowledge to build my business and watch it grow. I have recommended the Lyons Certification Programs without reservation, noting especially the tremendous communication, professionalism and people skills John and Josh possess.
